Since 2015, Sentimental Punk presents its research on avant-garde and structural filmmakers* and invites sound artists to create live improvisation for the shown films. Curated by Dafne Narvaez Berlfein, each edition is a collective work in collaboration with Amirali Ghasemi, Eugenia Seriakov, Julia Brunner, Julia Herfurth, Lisa Simpson, Santiago Doljanin, Stefan Endewardt, & the Kotti Shop community. During our 10-year history amazing artists have contributed to making Sentimental Punk happen, being part of previous years: Aude Langlois, Catalina Fernández, Christina Ertl-Shirley, Lena Wenta, Seamus O’Donnell, Willem van den Hoek.

What started as a research meeting inside Kotti-Shop with the aim of sharing Dafne Narvaez Berlfein’s ongoing audiovisual research on structural and avant-garde films and sound art by women* in a non-academic space, developed during the pandemic into a public space event in the backyard of the Neues Kreuzberger Zentrum.

Under the motto „Two Soundtracks. One Film Selection,“ Sentimental Punk has established itself as one of the most significant interdisciplinary forums between film art and contemporary music in Berlin. The setting at Kottbusser Tor makes the format simultaneously an open, social meeting space – closer to the asphalt than to the concert hall.
